As the seasons transition, fresh interior design trends emerge and will define living spaces for the coming months.
As Summer gets underway, a wave of innovation, creativity and style arrives, offering homeowners and designers alike an exciting array of possibilities to elevate their interiors.
From the return of bold colours to the exploration of gold tones, the design landscape is ripe with inspiration.
We delve into seven captivating interior design trends poised to make a statement in homes in Summer 2024.
These trends promise to inspire and transform your living space for the season.
Gold Tones
Incorporating colour trends for the year is a simple way to brighten your space and change how it looks completely.
Andrea Schumacher, interior designer and founder of Andrea Schumacher Interiors, says:
“Gold and warm tones are making a significant impact in decor this Summer because they instantly brighten spaces and create a cheerful, inviting atmosphere.
“These colours evoke warmth, luxury and comfort, making any room feel more welcoming and lively.”
To bring gold into your home, it is best to start with picture frames and decorative objects then gradually build up with mirrors, furniture and even feature walls.
She adds: “Layer various warm tones to create a rich, cohesive look and ensure they complement the existing colour palette and decor elements.”
Bold Colours
Bright, bold colours make a return for Summer 2024 and they are a great way to spruce up your decor.
Nina Lichtenstein, principal designer and founder of Nina’s Home Design, says:
“Incorporate vibrant accent pieces such as pillows, artwork, or area rugs in shades like citrusy yellow, coral pink, or turquoise blue.”
She recommends balancing these hues with neutral backgrounds for a striking yet harmonious look.
This design trend can also be brought outside, such as patterned throw pillows to create a cosy place to relax under the sun.
Coastal Hamptons
Kathy Kuo, interior designer and founder of Kathy Kuo Home, says:
“For Summer 2024, I’m seeing so many signs that upscale Coastal Hamptons is going to be the look of the season.
“The Coastal Hamptons look is all about a sense of laidback luxury, with plenty of visual nods to the beach and the seaside environment.”
To add this interior design trend to your home, go for weathered teak patio furniture with crisp white and blue pillows and throw blankets and statement lighting featuring a capiz shell.
Also, think about nautical-inspired dishware and glassware for entertaining poolside.
Textured Walls
Textured walls are an interior design trend for Summer 2024 and can elevate certain parts of the home.
Andrea says: “Textured walls are making a bold statement this Summer — especially those featuring graphic patterns.
“To incorporate textured walls into your home, start by selecting a colour pattern that complements your existing hardware and furniture.
“Then, choose textures and graphics that enhance the room’s overall aesthetic, ensuring they bring out the colours of surrounding decor.”
It is recommended to consider the room’s purpose and what ambience you want to create before opting for a textured wall.
She adds: “From here, balance the textured wall with neutral tones in the rest of the decor to prevent the room from feeling too busy.”
Pattern Mixing
Retro styles have made a comeback in 2024, thanks to people leaning into nostalgic decor.
One of these is pattern mixing, which is a key Summer decor trend.
Andrea says: “Pattern mixing is a hot trend for Summer 2024 because it adds a fun, unique, and dynamic element to home decor.
“This trend allows for creativity and personalisation, making spaces feel more vibrant and interesting.”
“Mixing patterns can transform a room, giving it depth and character while reflecting the homeowner’s personality.”
Identify a colourful focal point and use it to inspire your colour palette.
She continues: “You don’t have to dive headfirst into bold wallpapers – instead, consider incorporating colour through smaller elements like statement lamps or lively area rugs, which can be easily swapped out if needed.”
Tenniscore
Tenniscore has become one of the top interior design trends for Summer 2024 thanks to Zendaya’s romantic sports drama Challengers.
Nina explains: “Tenniscore interior design is a stylish trend inspired by the elegance of tennis and country club aesthetics, blending classic sports elements with refined decor.
“To achieve this look, use a colour palette of whites, greens, and navy blues, incorporate natural materials like wood and rattan, and select timeless furniture pieces.”
You can also decorate your home with vintage-style tennis memorabilia.
This can be framed rackets or tournament posters.
Wood
With its warmth and versatility, wood continues to be an interior design staple.
For Summer 2024, lean towards lighter shades of wood which bring a soft, airy feel to interiors.
Mary Lambrakos, founder of Lambrakos Studio, says:
“Raw materials such as wood imbue spaces with a sense of heritage while seamlessly bridging the gap between indoor comfort and outdoor beauty.
“Whether it’s the rich warmth of oiled wooden furniture or the rustic charm of natural-toned poolside benches, these elements add texture and character to interior settings.”
Each piece brings a piece of the natural world indoors, promoting a calming and grounded environment.
As we go into Summer, the realm of interior design embarks on an exhilarating journey of creativity and innovation.
These seven design trends offer a glimpse into the dynamic landscape of interior design.
From the timeless allure of retro patterns to the luxurious appeal of gold tines, each trend presents an opportunity to infuse homes with personality, style and sophistication.
