Redditor shared the interior design tips in a viral post.

“I wanted to share some of my own opinions that might go against the grain,” they said.

Starting in the bathroom, the home decor enthusiast explained why they would always pick shower curtains over a glass door.

“I almost always prefer shower curtains over glass. The bathroom is already a ‘cold’ space with a lot of hard materials,” they said.

“A shower curtain adds some texture and warmth, and it’s easy and fairly cheap to switch out if you feel like changing up the look.”

The design choice doubled as an expert cleaning hack that makes sessions faster and easier.

“Plus, for me, it’s a practical issue. I’ve found that glass is so much upkeep to keep clean, and a lot of the showers with glass panels I’ve used still let water out in some way,” they said.

In common areas or in the bedroom, they explained that they would never add bookshelves without also adding books.

“Bookshelves with no books on them look stupid,” they said.

“All the Insta/designer photos of bookshelves with nothing but art objects and maybe a few aesthetically pleasing books look soulless and impractical to me.”

Instead of using bookshelves as a placeholder for random objects, they urged homeowners to properly utilize the piece.

“Some books can really add personality, warmth, and life to a space,” they said.

The Redditor also took up an issue with aesthetically pleasing surfaces that aren’t used for its purposes.

“Over-styled surfaces look way worse than empty ones. Now, I’m no minimalist and definitely prefer a little styling on most surfaces, but some of the ones you see have just been styled to death,” they said.

Budget interior design tips

Interior designer Judy Hoang shared her with The U.S. Sun.

  • Thrift furniture and paint it to match your decor.
  • Test if an item is fit for its purpose before thrifting.
  • Shop at Target or HomeGoods for rugs, lamps, desks, and pillows.
  • Invest in classic timeless pieces.
  • Set up smart home lighting to save money.

“I’m talking surfaces where almost every inch is intentionally covered with books/decorative objects/etc.

“I think this is especially bad with coffee tables that are covered in stuff. Where do you put your drinks? Your food? Your feet? It baffles me.”

Other interior buffs shared their decor ticks and icks in the comments.

“I hate modern farmhouses. It’s almost always kitschy and poorly executed, especially when you do it in a modern McMansion home,” said one commenter.

“I also hate almost all ‘art’ with words on it.”

“Modern farmhouse style cracks me up. I grew up in a farmhouse, and it didn’t look like that at all. I might like some elements of it, but I like to mix and match design styles,” agreed another.

“I HATE word art. I don’t need my kitchen wall telling me to eat.”
