LOS ANGELES – A new credenza from a Los Angeles-based furniture design studio encases a TV so snugly, it’s hard to tell it’s even there.
The “Off the Wall” piece, from furniture designer Geology Studio, aims to give a fresh approach for home stylists, who the studio says often struggle to incorporate wall-mounted TVs into their design layouts.
“The impossible conundrum of home stylists everywhere; a TV on the wall can be a real vibe killer,” said Adam Friedman, studio founder. “We wanted to fix that by bringing the TV ‘off the wall’ and nestling it into a beautiful handmade credenza-style wood casing.
The benefits are more than aesthetic, he says.
“When you’re in a museum, the pictures hang on the wall so the viewer can experience them at eye level. I wanted to bring the TV down to eye level for a more comfortable and immersive experience.”
The piece features a patented sound reflection panel, which Friedman says allows traditional downfire speakers to reflect outward toward the viewer.
The credenza is made to fit any TV using a proprietary attachment method that nestles any flat screen into place and ready for viewing, giving the look and feel of a custom piece. The piece is crafted from white oak and walnut. It measures 51 inches long, 36 inches tall and 16 inches deep, with custom sizes available upon request. It ships in three weeks from Southern California for $3,400.
“We’ve been using this piece in our home for several months now,” said Vanessa Friedman, studio co-founder. “Every time we have guests over, they’re shocked when they realize there’s a TV in the space. They usually comment on the credenza and then notice the TV inside much later. Technology is always asking for our attention. I love how we can reclaim our walls for art and let the TV take the main stage only when we decide turn it on.”
Geology Studio is run by husband-and-wife Adam and Vanessa Friedman. Every piece is hand-built by Adam Friedman in Southern California.
The company is also the manufacturer of the , a piece built specifically for vinyl record playing and storage.
