AN INTERIOR designer has revealed seven popular trends that she said you should never decorate your house with.

Valentina revealed one common household decoration that “downgrades the room” and shared why you need to get rid of your magazines.

Speaking on her YouTube channel, , she said: “These items aren’t giving us the full potential of our space.

Magazines

Valentina revealed that she herself has displayed magazines around her house, as decorations.

However, she said that this is not a “good look”.

“They just look messy, and don’t convey a sophisticated look”, she said.

Laundry

The interior designer said that she does not think that people should have their laundry hanging out when they have guests around.

She said that if you don’t have time to put it all away before people arrive, you can put it in a wicker basket.

Remotes

“Most people store their remotes on the table, I never do that”, Valentina said.

She said that leaving your TV remote out is very messy, and recommended putting them in a drawer or a box.

Trophies And Memorabila

Valentina said that she would never decorate her home with trophies or memorabilia.

“Generally speaking these things are clutter, so I put memorabilia and keepsakes in a box.

“That way when I want to be sentimental, I know where to put them”.

Small Books

Small books make your home look “cluttered” according to Valentina.

She said that she tucks these books into a cupboard, and only has larger books out on display.

“I love books, I just don’t decorate with the little ones”, she said.

2024’s Top Trending Colours for Interior Design

Homebase has revealed the official trending colours for this year.

To predict the top shades of 2024, sales data at Homebase analysed 5 colours that have surged in popularity with customers.

Copper, pink and black are predicted to be the hottest colours on Brit’s walls this year, while bathrooms are seeing a surprising rise in terracotta colour schemes.

The top five trending colours for 2024 are:

Copper (+57%)
Pink (+38%)
Black (+34%)
Green (+29%)
Orange (+27%)

Copper has replaced rose gold, whilst blush is the new magnolia, and Brits are also going bold by slapping black paint all over their walls.

Green is always popular colour, but the shade ‘Fresh Herb’ – a versatile, pale grey-toned green – is hitting hundreds of customers baskets.

Meanwhile, terracotta is taking over with ‘Frosted Papaya’, a peachy orange shade dominating bathrooms.

Packaged Goods

Valentina said that leaving cereal boxes out on display is “not pretty”.

She said that she decants everything into pretty containers, from cereal, to soap, and salt and pepper.

The interiors expert said: “I know people may say that this is not decor, but if they are out on display, then technically this does count as decoration.

Dried Flowers

Valentina’s final tip is to get rid of dried flowers.

She said: “I’ve tried so hard to get on board with the dried flowers trend, it’s been so in, but they just look dead.”
