“Seeking advice for decorating my new apartment room — any tips?” they asked.
“Just moved into a new apartment and I’m looking to give my room a fresh vibe.
“I’m usually not big on decorating, but I’m feeling inspired to change that.

“The room is a 13-by-11 rectangle with a bay window like divot on the back wall.
“There is also a six-foot-five entry way/walk in closet on the opposite wall from the bay window wall.”

First, they recommended looking into functionality of the furniture as well as doing some due diligence on decorating at the library.
They added some tried-and-true advice from a decorator friend.
“For major pieces of furniture, look for ‘low pattern/ high texture,'” they said.
“Add accent colors and prints in accessories like pillows and small upholstered pieces, which can easily be changed if your tastes change.
“Learn about the rule of thirds. It will add balance and comfort to your surroundings.”
They also included some home furnishing hacks for tight spaces of their own.
“My tips — do not by a sectional,” they warned.
“I’ve seen so many posts on here from people who moved or want to rearrange, and the sectional is inflexible and impossible to work with.”
They recommended an alternative to buying a large piece like a sectional sofa.
“Invest in flexible furniture,” they said.
