I am a home décor junkie. I’ve been writing about home décor for more than two decades, and every day I pore over home décor magazines, scour the web for trends and new products, and receive countless emails from PR agencies boasting the latest and greatest in industry news. I’m excited I get to share my passion for interior design and décor with Suburban readers.
Ikea
There are three new long-term bathroom families at Ikea (bonus points if you can pronounce them!): Havbäck, Ängsjön, and Tännforsen. Ikea Canada’s Life at Home study found that 50 per cent of people are looking to renovate their home in the next two years, so now is the perfect time to incorporate one of these stylish looks into your new bathroom. The Havbäck bathroom series is designed with a sense of calm, simplicity, and functionality in mind, and it’s available in beige, white, and dark gray. The Ängsjön bathroom series as a distinctly contemporary feel, with integrated handles and a refined minimalist expression. It comes in high-gloss white, oak effect, and brown oak effect. And finally, the Tännforsen bathroom series has lots of streamlined, classic details, and is available in white and light grey. It’s a busy time for bathroom renos – consider these three styles for your next project.
Free plants for all
Did you know that many municipalities are giving out free annual flowers, perennial plants, and kitchen herbs? Some are even offering vegetable plants, shrubs, native plant seeds, compost, and mulch, along with resources like advice on how to grow and sustain gardens. Also, check your local library for free flower sees, including native ones, as well as fruit and vegetable seeds. Some also have seed exchanges, or they accept donations of seeds or plant cuttings.
The spray way
Over time, weather elements can really wreak havoc on our outdoor furniture and accessories. And once something like rust starts, it’s hard to stop. Sico recently introduced a unique spraypaint line that helps you refresh your exterior decor in just minutes. It’s the perfect quick fix to bring new life to furniture, fabrics, and accessories, and it dries in five minutes or less. It’s also available in three formulas to cater to different DIY paint needs.
I have a black metal fire stove that had turned that all-too-familiar shade of burnt orange as rust seeped in, but with a quick coat of this Sico spray paint, it looks brand new. This is one of the least expensive ways to revitalize your outdoor accessories.
