Vibrant colours were very much in vogue , with a colour palette of orange, gold and green making their way into homes. However, one shade which led the trend was the bright shade of yellow known as “Harvest Yellow”. According to experts, the yellow trend is set to make a comeback – but with a difference.

While search trends around yellow paint are already showing an increase in popularity, Michael Rolland, paint expert and managing director at says people are moving towards softer shades. In particular, the expert believes homeowners will be incorporating more “butter yellow” into their homes.
Research by the Paint Shed shows Google searches for ‘butter yellow kitchen walls’ are up 50 percent in the past month and ‘butter yellow wall paint’ is up 133 percent.
Pinterest searches for ‘butter yellow kitchen’ up 200 percent in the past month and ‘yellow hallway’ up 20 percent.
Michael said: “One of my favourite things about this shade is its versatility, no matter which room you use it in, the warm yellow creates a calming environment.
“This is one of the reasons it is so popular within living spaces and kitchens as it creates a soothing feeling of warmth which can help to create a relaxed atmosphere.
“The adaptability of the butter yellow shade allows for it to be paired with many other colours, including earthy neutrals for a balanced feel, crisp black and white to add a touch of modern and contemporary to the home and even bold shades such as navy blue to create a contrast in the space.”
Michael also pointed out that due to its muted tone, butter yellow can be used to replace neutral paints, adding warmth to a room. He likened the shade to magnolia, which was a popular choice in the 1990s and 2000s.
“The popularity of a warm buttery magnolia shade came from it being a neutral base colour which could be paired with a range of other interior trends and colours, a shade which is inviting and warm, welcoming people into your space,” he said.
“As other neutral shades became more popular Magnolia took a step back but with the new butter yellow paint trend it seems to be having a comeback.”
