The Whitehorse waste will soon no longer require months of waiting for home toxic waste time.
Every Saturday starting on February 3, the area will hold a regular household hazardous waste day at the garbage.
The city noted that it is seeing a steady increase in the number of people bringing toxic spare to the waste on family dangerous waste days as well as the amount of toxic material being diverted from standard waste at landfill. It changed the event from being held twice-a-year to being hosted every week. Wet color, machine oil and its containers, solvents, oil, BBQ start, anti-freeze, house cleaning products, compact fluorescent light bulbs, home and car batteries, pesticides and other under-pressure containers like bear spray and propane canisters are examples of this type of waste.
The city stated in a statement that this change” may ensure that household hazardous waste is properly disposed of and builds on its ongoing attempts to divert materials from the waste into their proper waste streams, including soil, recyclables, and construction and demolition waste.”
Every Saturday starting on February 3 at the landfill, residents will have the opportunity to dispose of their household hazardous waste for free from 9 a.m. to 4 o’clock. Business dangerous trash will not be accepted, and normal tipping fees may be charged for all non-household dangerous waste.
